Since Trump announced that the United States was not backing Ukraine and instead considering abandoning NATO, it has become clearer every day that Trump and his band of opportunists have seized power to destroy and reshape America for their personal gain.
The naïve and complacent American society that existed for fifty years – and allowed MAGA to take hold – has yet to fully grasped what’s going on.
On April 30, 2025, many Americans appear to be in shock and various degrees of denial, including some declaring that we must be patient for genius Trump’s tariffs to work.
The real deep state is in power now and working hard to silence dissent.
MAGA Oligarchy: The New Deep State
What is the deep state? According to Oxford dictionary the deep state is:
“A body of people, typically influential members of government agencies or the military, believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government policy…The deep state and its policy of allowing extremist ideologies to flourish may be the actual issues of concern.”
Secret extremism is the key factor, but there may come a time when the new world oligarchy will be announced publicly – this time headed by Trump, Putin, Xi Jinping, Netanyahu and other autocrats and other tech-bro billionaires.
Not surprising – the people of Japan sense the emerging repeat of history more than most because of the suffering they endured as a result of their fascist participation to take over the world in World War II, and subsequent destruction from atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Perhaps one day, Americans will also have embedded in their psyche to never let an authoritarian regime take power again.
But just like the Japanese, only through suffering will Americans look back on the Trump oligarchy as an experiment in American dictatorship that failed.
How many Americans lose everything or die before it’s all over remains to be seen.
Perhaps the elimination of America’s social safety nets like Medicaid, excessive military aggression like an invasion of Greenland, tariff induced inflation and destruction of small businesses – could finally be what changes the minds of right-wing believers.
Or it could be the deportation of people without due process – including legal residents and American citizens.
Timeline of the MAGA Oligarchy
The MAGA Oligarchy could last a long time – possibly from 2015 to 2032 for 17 years. It may take this long before, as James Carville, Political Strategist, put it – MAGA fails “spectacularly” enough for the majority of die-hard MAGA Republicans to realize their mistake.
But Americans are too spunky to be told what to do forever and many are well armed. When they’ve had enough, they will stand up and fight.
This is why the day will come when Americans celebrate their multi-cultural heritage roots again.
They will want all of their traditions surrounding Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian History, Chinese New Year, Indigenous People’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day and so many more. They will also want to keep their ethnic food.
Even as the 2025 American autocracy experiment gets in full swing, cracks are already showing –
Hopeful signs include:
- Zelensky and Europe holding the line for democracy and fighting on against the Russians in Ukraine without U.S. help.
- Harvard University and other institutions of learning standing up for freedom of speech, autonomy and the rule of law.
- The American people protesting all over the country including at town halls and Tesla dealerships, against Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE efforts to destroy America.
- The American judicial system holding Trump accountable for illegal activity like shipping people off to overseas prisons without due process.
Surviving America’s Dictatorship Experiment
Although it’s too soon to predict what America will look like after the Trump Era, it’s likely that the states and localities that band together will fare best – despite the Federal government’s intense destructive efforts which includes eliminating FEMA help during disasters.
Governors for example, are organizing people in their states to help each other defend and preserve freedom.
They know their ability to confront reality is critical in responding and fighting to keep aspirational policies and laws in place to protect their citizens and keep jobs in their states.
Secondly, many rugged Americans will overcome losses and take advantage of opportunities that present themselves during these dark times.
For example, individuals and small businesses may move out of the U.S. while tariffs are in place, or move to blue states with better policies toward business survival.
The success of Bernie and AOC’s messaging and Indivisible Protesting Groups and many others around the U.S., point the way forward. Some of the free press is also reporting out accurately what’s happening despite drastic reductions in reliable news media and intense propaganda from the right.
American Companies Holding the Line
The best American companies are fine tuning creative ways to work around the Trump administration while retaining corporate responsible behavior.
This involves holding to core company values which follow the law and are above politics, and that provide equal opportunity, fair and merit based employment.
Their Important emphasis echoes our Declaration of Independence, and 14th Amendment – that all are created equal regardless of “race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, familial status, and national origin.”
These companies insist that equal rights and non-discriminatory policies be adhered to, so that in the future there won’t be a need to use separate gender terms like “LGTBQ+.” Instead, the encompassing term “gay” will be sufficient as everyone knows their rights.
The American workplace, which reflects American society and values, eventually will look a lot like it did before the Trump Era. With one great exception:
Americans will be forever wiser as a result of surviving their collective self-inflicted wound voting for Trump.
Therefore, Christian Nationalism will die out and instead be replaced by churches that honor the memory of Pope Francis and what he stood for.
One day, Americans will again try to love their neighbor and care for the needy, because they’ve learned that revenge, greed, power and misinformation, don’t buy happiness or create a healthy society.
