Helen’s Place LLC created The Feather Birdhouse^TM Sketch and Note Combo Journal, as an alternative to traditional sketchbooks, notebooks and journals.

What makes it unique is the feature to  use the side with lines to write on, or a blank page for illustrations on the left or right.   Just flip the journal over to the side that works best for you!

To create a field log to observe birds in the wild, add lines down the page to form a grid.  Events to record might include the date, time of day, type of bird, and what happened.

Teacher’s with limited budgets can easily tear out perforated sheets to distribute to students in their classrooms.

Traditional Layout

If you want to, you can write in your journal the traditional way with writing on the right side and illustrations on the left.   Or flip the book over and do illustrations on the right and writing on the left.  You could also divide your book in half – do one book one way and then flip it over and do the other half the other way.  It’s up to you!

Now you’re free to create a world to write a fiction or non-fiction story, or keep a notebook of what interests you the most with sketches to go along with it.  You could also make a journal of your personal story and relationship with birds.

You can use your journal to focus on your sketches by putting your artistic design or illustrations on the right and words on the left.  You might even want to draw arrows and label elements in your drawing, such as the parts of a bird(s).
