Helen’s Place LLC Update: July 7, 2022
People struggling to make it through a bad situation to achieve success, benefit from reading books and seeing movies that provide inspiration about people who succeed against all odds.
The story of Phiona Mutesi, born in 1996 to become a Ugandan chess champion, is brought to life in the movie, Queen of Katwe.
Her story offers hope to struggling young people trying to escape bad situations and grow-up to find their path in life. It helps them gain perspective – a critical mindset needed to move forward in a constructive direction and make better choices.
People benefit more from the constructive action they turn to rather than what they turn from;
This is why inspirational role models, like Phiona Mutesi, are so important because they exemplify the right direction to follow.
The movie is based on the book, The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster, by Tim Crothers.
Phiona’s extraordinary story is inspirational because she grew up against impossible odds, and escaped from the Ugandan slum of Katwe to become a world chess champion.
