Staffing Agencies Find Work for People On The Move

If you’re a person on the move, and need help finding a job fast, don’t overlook getting a job through a staffing agency.

This works well for people who are too busy, unable to find a job on their own, or planning to relocate to a new geographic area in the U.S.

The American Staffing Association (ASA) is an organization that represents the staffing industry in the U.S. and has a searchable database of staffing agency members.

On their website, americanstaffing.net, (screenshot shown below),  job seekers are able to click on “Find a Staffing Agency,” at the top of the screen and enter a zip code  in the “enter a location” block at the bottom of the screen, to locate a list of staffing agencies in a designated geographic area.

New staffing agencies are also able to join the ASA and get listed.

American Staffing Association Website:

Although statistically speaking, most  job seekers find more jobs through networking, getting work through a staffing agency may be a good idea for some people seeking temporary, long-term or permanent work.

For a specific company, a job seeker should first contact the business HR department directly by phone (preferably) or through the business website application process, and review any company job postings.

The company human resource department should be able to advise a potential applicant, about whether or not they are working through any staffing agencies for short-term, temporary  or permanent positions.

Some companies prefer to use employment/staffing agencies because they are too busy to review applications, interview, and negotiate salaries.

To avoid confusion, a job seeker shoulddn’t apply for jobs directly with a company and then try to work with an employment/ staffing agency working with the same company.

The job seeker should keep a spreadsheet to keep straight the contact information regarding which agencies and which companies they are talking to.

In addition to staffing agencies, job seekers should at a minimum post their resume on

two or more job boards.  They should also post their profile for what they are looking for, and start receiving automatic job postings based on the criteria they set up.    A few links to the best job search boards are included on the Helen’s Place Links page.
