Helen’s Place LLC  Update: November 7, 2024

This article – War of Words Part II – picks up the story from the VP debate on October 1, 2024 to November 5, 2024  –  documenting one of the most unusual presidential campaigns in American history.

But First The Vision:

By the end of October 2024,  MAGA was louder than ever – especially at the Madison Square Garden event held Sun. October 27, 2024.    But the metaphorical cat lady (karma) waited patiently and wasn’t intimidated – as she knew the fate of those who lie.

Someday she expected to ask – “cat got your tongue?” to those shocked into silence by the November 5, 2024 results,  because she understood that eventually most people realize when they’ve been conned, and this date marked the beginning of such an awakening in America.

And as a new silent majority of women did not vote en masse at the polls as was hoped – to express that actions really do speak louder than words –   it turned out that the 2024 presidential election wasn’t about “the economy – stupid,” as James Carville so famously said in 1992, but about “the lies – stupid!

In the firelight, reflecting how lies and greed won once more,  truthful Americans who lost would have to get some rest and regroup before fighting a new day for freedom, truth and justice.

War of Words – Part 2

By the time of the VP debate between Tim Walz and J.D. Vance on October 1, 2024, the war of words was already ratcheting up, including more lies about Haitians eating pets in Springfield, OH.

The polite, civilized tone of the vice presidential debate was appreciated by many Americans who hoped it might set a more traditional campaign tone going forward.  However, this hope was short lived.

Instead, as time went on, Donald Trump and his supporters became angrier about immigrants, Democrats, and anyone who didn’t agree with them.  Trump became more unhinged and incoherent – danced at rallies, talked about Kamala Harris being “retarded,” Arnold Palmer’s d**k, shooting Liz Cheney in the face, and in the final days of his campaign – shooting the news media.

All of Trump’s actions were to the delight of his supporters who laughed at all his crudeness.

There will be a trove of books written about the 2024 Presidential Election and what it all meant, but it certainly could be seen as the beginning of the MAGA attempt to end American democracy.

Trump’s rally speeches included talk of mass deportations of illegal non-citizens living in the U.S. – using an old 1798 law that allowed for deportations if “invaded by an enemy.”

He appeared in a McDonalds staged photo op, and as an orange vested garbage man in a garbage truck – stunts he hoped endeared him as a billionaire to his average American voters.

Especially concerning were Trump and his sycophants Nazi rhetoric about “the enemy from within,” –  threatening to go after political opponents like Nancy Pelosi and the “radical left” when elected president.

Through it all, many reputable news organizations continued to maintain journalistic standards of impartiality to all political parties – picking out threads of coherent messages to objectively report on.

However, this effort had little effect on reducing MAGA attacks on the so called “crooked media,”  because the MAGA strategy was to confuse and deceive American voters throughout the election cycle, and make them distrustful and angrier over Trump’s “unfair” treatment.

Throughout the final days of the campaign – major news organizations continued sanewashing Trump’s rants and  J.D. Vance’s rhetoric, instead of focusing on the lies coming out of their mouths – preferring to present the election as a horserace rather than a serious threat to democracy.

But a rare report on October 6, 2024 from Peter Baker of the New York Times,  finally addressed Trump’s mental fitness for office.  Overall though, news coverage of Biden’s mental deterioration in comparison to Trump’s coverage, was unrelenting before Biden stepped down from running for reelection.

The bottom line was that the underreporting of accurate MAGA rhetoric and campaign coverage, contributed to polls that reflected the presidential election was too close to predict because people were basing their decisions on wrong information.

Thus, as early voting got underway It became clear that millions of voters still believed in “the big lie” that the 2020 election was stolen – a mind boggling fact.

The Defining Issues of the 2024 MAGA Win

As the 2024 election campaign drew closer to election day,  more and more information was uncovered about Republican’s Project 2025, Agenda 47 and other plans to establish an authoritarian regime, and to control people – especially women, and reduce their rights and freedoms.

Some of the MAGA plans included destroying the American government including the Department of Education, rounding up and deporting millions of illegal immigrants, and establishing a dystopian Christian Nationalist society.

It also included plans by “tech-bro” billionaires like Elon Musk –  to eventually take power and control over the United States government.  It was planned that America’s social entitlement programs like the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Social Security would be eliminated or reduced should MAGA win.

Elon Musk would be put in charge of cutting the Federal government agencies.

Also, based on the evidence,  the plans included that if Trump won he would harass and prosecute American citizens who spoke out against him, and create chaos and fear of retribution among the population to prevent future criticisms of him and his MAGA regime.

The Key Questions the 2024 Election Got Down to:

The first question  running through the 2024 election cycle was, “what type of society do Americans wanted to live in?”  Two totally different visions of America were presented:

J.D. Vance offered his vision for America and spoke against unmarried women with no kids – calling them “childless cat ladies.”

He promised to send women back to married and pregnant roles for the good of society.  Trump said he wanted to “take care of women whether they liked it or not” – to control them and curtail their rights.

On the other hand, the Harris/Walz counter narrative said  “we’re not going back,” and called for preserving a free society with equal participation for all – including by women, minorities, and LGBTQ+.  It also called for reproductive freedom – including a woman’s right to an abortion and to control her own body.

The second question centered around, “what  type of leadership do Americans want?”  A country led by a wannabe dictator promising riches and security for a select group of his supporters?

Or to preserve our constitution with an elected president and mandate to run a government designed to promote success for all its citizens regardless of status or political party?

Third –  Do American’s want to be pro-union and pro-worker?  Do they want corporations to pay their fair share of taxes or do they want a tax system that favors millionaires and billionaires at the expense of middle class Americans and the poor?

Fourth – Do Americans want to tear down government institutions or work within the system to improve it?

Fifth – Do Americans want to reduce gun violence?

Sixth – Do American’s want to preserve freedom of speech and action  including protecting people’s right to read uncensored books and materials, and love who they love?

Seventh – Do American’s want to maintain world alliances and participation in NATO?  Do they want diplomatic involvement with other countries to support human rights, democracies around the world, and climate change solutions?

Eighth – Do American’s want solutions to real problems like what to do about regulating artificial Intelligence, immigration, poverty, mental illness, and drug abuse?

What we learned – Regardless of Which Political Party Won

The American fight for democracy is never over, because freedom is not free and there’s a cost to preserving it – requiring discernment, participation and vigilance.

Dark forces exist on the margin of our democracy and are ready to swoop in when enough Americans open the door to believing in and supporting lies.

Enemies of democracy are working 24/7 within the U.S. and around the world to bring down America and seize power.  This is why MAGA or a version of it will continue because as politician Kathy Barnette so aptly said in  2020  – “We were MAGA before there was MAGA.”

Beware of an autocrat, preacher or anyone using a lot of hateful words, doesn’t make sense, or purposely talks in confusing speech patterns – because this is how autocrats manipulate people into compliance through lying and misinformation.

Beware of any person or group claiming to be a Christian, who doesn’t remember what Jesus said,  ““Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s,”  because separation of church and state is a pillar of our democracy.

Beware of hate speech including name calling and snarky and dangerous comments – because these are the marks of a bully.  Fight for everyone to have a right to speak – whether their speech is perfect or not.

Encourage people to mind their own business and stop trying to tell people how to live.  Instead fight for human rights including women’s reproductive rights.

Most importantly – hold on to your own brain and don’t let anyone or anything control you. This will require vigilance; be watchful and don’t believe everything you see or hear.  But at the same time don’t become apathetic because with a little effort, it’s easy to figure out fact from fiction, and which words are true or not.
