Capturing Stories of Work and Life

Some people capture every moment of their non-working career in great detail, recording every action of family gatherings and events, taking selfies, and pictures of children and loved ones.    These photos are collected in digital formats on cell phones and computers, and often stored in the iCloud.

Consider that it may be more important to capture the story around the photo than the photo itself.

What was going on the day the photo was taken?  What was important about the day and the moments leading up to and after the photo was taken?

When it comes to your working life, where you spend most of your working hours, you may not have recorded anything at all.  You may have just moved on to the next job in your career and left the past behind.

But the story of where you started, and what led to your next move, is just as important as the summary of what you remember at the end of your life.

It’s the journey that gives life meaning, and you want to be able to say – I learned so much along the way and this is the story of how I got here.

Before you take the photo of people smiling in a framed shot, look around and consider what else is important about that moment and jot down a note or two.
